May 21, 2015 BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team will enter this week's Final Four riding the crest of a seven-game winning streak. The Blue Jays will also bring four All-Americans with them as junior attackman Ryan Brown, senior long stick midfielder Michael Pellegrino, freshman midfielder Joel Tinney and senior attackman Wells Stanwick were all named to the 2015 USILA All-America Team, which was announced on Thursday.
Brown was named to the second team, while Pellegrino and Tinney grabbed third team honors. Stanwick earned honorable mention status to round out Johns Hopkins' four selections. This is the third time Stanwick has been named an All-American, while the selection is the second for Pellegrino.
Brown earns All-America honors for the first time in his career as he cemented his reputation as one of the top pure shooters in college lacrosse. He currently leads the team in goals (60) and points (74) and will carry a national-best 33-game goal-scoring streak into Johns Hopkins' national semifinal game against Maryland. Brown's 60 goals are a Johns Hopkins single-season record, while his 74 points are the sixth-best total in school history. Brown was previously named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and was a unanimous First Team All-Big Ten selection. He has nine hat tricks ad 15 multi-goal games to his credit this season.
Pellegrino, who earned Second Team All-America honors last season and is the first long stick midfielder in school history to twice earn All-America honors, counts three goals, three assists 56 ground balls and a school-record 25 caused turnovers to his credit this season. The unquestioned emotional leader of the team, Pellegrino has fueled a defensive turnaround for the Blue Jays in the last six weeks that has spearheaded the seven-game winning streak. Pellegrino earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Tournament in early May after leading the Blue Jays to the tournament title.
Tinney becomes the first Johns Hopkins freshman to earn All-America honors since Paul Rabil grabbed third team honors in 2005. The Big Ten Freshman of the Year and an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection, Tinney quickly emerged as one of the top all-around freshman midfielders in the nation this season. He counts 26 goals and 10 assists to his credit and is tied for third on the team in goals, ranks fourth in points and fifth in ground balls (31). He counts 10 multi-point games and seven multi-goal games to his credit.
Stanwick is the leader of a Johns Hopkins offense that is averaging better than 13 goals per game and nearly 15 goals during the current seven-game winning streak. He ranks second on the team in scoring with a career-high 69 points on 26 goals and a team-high 43 assists. He will carry a 36-game point-scoring streak into the semifinal game against Maryland and has 15 multi-point and 13 multi-assist games on the year. Earlier this season he earned First Team All-Big Ten and Big Ten Tournament MVP honors.
