Johns Hopkins Crushes Western Maryland, 7-1

Oct. 16, 2001

WESTMINSTER, MD - Senior forward Kacey Foster (East Northport, NY/Northport) and freshman forward Jen Baldwin (Medway, MA/Medway) each scored two goals and added an assist to led the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team to a 7-1 rout of Centennial rival Western Maryland this afternoon. Hopkins scored four goals in the first 15 minutes to put the game away.

JHU, which scored its most goals since an 8-1 victory over Bryn Mawr last year, improved to 10-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the Centennial. The Green Terror fell to 6-10 overall and 4-5 in CC play. The Blue Jays reached double-digit wins for the sixth consecutive season.

Foster opened the scoring in the fifth minute on an assist from sophomore midfielder Annie Colabella (East Granby, CT/East Granby). Freshman midfielder Kathleen Turley (New Hyde Park, NY/New Hyde Park) gave Hopkins a 2-0 lead three minutes later with her second goal of the year off a feed from sophomore midfielder Leah Blom (Needham, MA/Needham).

After a Western Maryland goal, Foster tallied her second score of the day, her seventh of the year, on an assist from Baldwin. Baldwin followed that with an unassisted goal of her own to give JHU a 4-1 lead just 15 minutes into the first half.

Junior midfielder Jill Minger (Durham, OR/St. Mary's) continued the onslaught with her third goal of the year off a feed from Foster in the 20th minute. Minger, who now has 44 career points, moved into sixth-place all-time at Hopkins in career scoring. Baldwin capped the first-half scoring with an unassisted goal, her seventh of the season two minutes later.

Sophomore forward Aline Bernard (Nashville, TN/Hume Fogg) scored the lone goal of a rain soaked second half in the 79th minute on an assist from Minger. The goal was Bernard's fourth of the season and tenth of her career.
