Johns Hopkins Sweeps Franklin & Marshall, 3-0

Oct. 20, 2001

BALTIMORE, MD - Senior outside hitter Emily Miller (Richmond, VA/Governor's School) totaled a team-high 19 kills to lead the Johns Hopkins volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-28, 33-31, 30-27) sweep of Franklin & Marshall today in Baltimore. The Blue Jays moved closer to a Centennial Conference playoff spot with the win and improved to 16-12 overall and 7-2 in CC action. JHU is now 16-3 in its last 19 Centennial matches.

Franklin & Marshall was leading the conference entering the match, but falls to 19-8 overall and 7-2 in CC play. JHU has now won two consecutive matches versus the top team in the league. Hopkins defeated Gettysburg on Wednesday, when the Bullets were at the top of the standings, and now top the Diplomats when they are in first place.

Miller just missed her fifth 20-kill match of the season, but continues to lead the team with 373 kills for the season. Junior middle hitter Elisabeth Breese (Geneva, NY/Geneva) added 15 kills and four blocks, while freshman setter Betsy Baydala (Rockville Centre, NY/South Side) totaled seven kills. Baydala also added a team-high 15 digs and 33 assists.

Freshmen Erin Trish (Lexington, MA/Northfield Mount Hermon) and Linda Trihn (Silver Spring, MD) led the defensive effort with 10 and 12 digs, respectively. Trish added three blocks in the match. Freshman defensive specialist Katie Davis (Mesquite, TX/North Mesquite) recorded nine digs, while fellow freshman Catherine Albright (Louisville, CO/Fairview) added seven digs.

The Blue Jays will conclude the regular season against Western Maryland on Wednesday beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Westminster. Hopkins has won five of the last seven meetings with the Green Terror, including a 3-1 victory last year in Baltimore.
