LANCASTER, PA - The Johns Hopkins women's soccer team earned a berth in the Centennial Conference Tournament with a 1-1 tie against Franklin & Marshall today in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The Blue Jays (11-3-3, 6-2-2) are the third seed and will play second seeded Gettysburg on Saturday in the semifinals. Franklin & Marshall (12-4-1, 6-3-1) also qualified for the tournament and received the fourth seed. The Diplomats will face top-seeded and host Muhlenberg in the other semifinal.
Junior midfielder Jill Minger (Durham, OR/St. Mary's) opened the scoring in the fifth minute off a corner from senior midfielder Alix Batty (Gloversville, NY/Choate Rosemary Hall). The goal was Minger's fourth of the season and the 18th of her career. She now has 47 points for her career, which places her in a tie for fifth at Hopkins in career points. Batty is now second on the team with five assists to bring her career total to nine.
Sophomore Cassie McCormick tied the score for the Diplomats three minutes later on an assist from junior Heather Rice.
Junior goaltender Shannon O'Malley (Greenlawn, NY/Long Island Lutheran) made eight saves for JHU, which finishes the regular season with three ties, the most since the 1994 season. JHU outshot the Diplomats 18-to-9 and held a 6-to-2 advantage on corner kicks.
