Johns Hopkins Falls to Western Maryland, 3-0

WESTMINSTER, MD - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team had its five-match winning streak snapped by Western Maryland, 3-0 (20-30, 16-30, 18-30) tonight in Centennial Conference action in Westminster. Based on results from around the conference, Hopkins has secured the fourth seed in the CC Tournament scheduled for November 3. The Blue Jays finished the regular season with a 16-13 overall record and 7-3 mark in the Centennial.

Junior middle hitter Elisabeth Breese (Geneva, NY/Geneva) led JHU with eight kills, while senior outside hitter Emily Miller (Richmond, VA/Governor's School) was second on the squad with seven kills. Freshman outside hitter Betsy Farmer (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) and freshman setter Betsy Baydala (Rockville Centre, NY/South Side) added four kills each.

Defensively, Baydala recorded a team-high 12 digs, while Miller added six and freshman Erin Trish (Lexington, MA/Northfield Mount Hermon) totaled five. Breese led the team with four total blocks.

As the fourth seed, JHU will face the top-seeded and host Muhlenberg at 2:00 p.m. in one semifinal, while second seeded Gettysburg will play third seeded Haverford in the other semifinal.
