ALLENTOWN, PA - The Johns Hopkins women's soccer team fell to Muhlenberg College, 1-0, in the Centennial Conference Championship game today in Allentown, Pennsylvania. With the win, Muhlenberg (18-2) receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, while the Blue Jays (12-4-3) could receive an at-large bid or be selected to play in the ECAC Tournament.
After 41 scoreless minutes, Muhlenberg sophomore Dawn Iberer tallied the winning goal in the 42nd minute off an assist from junior Katy Hawkins. The Mules were then able to hold the 1-0 lead even though Hopkins held a 26-to-13 advantage in shots, including a 16-to-5 advantage in the second half.
Junior goaltender Shannon O'Malley (Greenlawn, NY/Long Island Lutheran) made three saves on the afternoon for JHU, while Kim Laurino kept Hopkins off the board with nine saves.
The Blue Jays, who have made four consecutive postseason appearances, will play next week if they are selected for the NCAA or ECAC Tournaments. JHU won the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Regional Women's Soccer Championship last season, defeating both Western Maryland and Franklin & Marshall, 4-0.
