HAVERFORD, PA - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team was swept by Haverford, 3-0 (30-22, 30-20, 30-21), tonight in Centennial Conference action on the road. The Blue Jays fell to 9-10 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial, while Haverford improved to 11-6 overall and 4-2 in CC play. The loss was the first for Hopkins against the Fords since the 1989 season.
The Blue Jays were led by freshman outside hitter Betsy Farmer (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow), who tallied a team- and career-high 10 kills with just two hitting errors. Junior middle hitter Elisabeth Breese (Geneva, NY/Geneva) totaled six kills in the match, while junior middle hitter Sarah Payne (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) and senior outside hitter Emily Miller (Richmond, VA/Governor's School) each added five kills.
Miller led the defense with 16 digs, and freshmen Betsy Baydala (Rockville Centre, NY/South Side) and Erin Trish (Lexington, MA/Northfield Mount Hermon) added 14 and 12 digs, respectively. Miller currently leads the team with 4.075 digs per game, Baydala is second on the team (3.544), and Trish ranks third (3.267).
The Blue Jays will be in action Friday and Saturday at the Salisbury University Tournament. JHU will face host Salisbury University, Rowan University, Villa Julie College, and Neumann College over the two days. The matches begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
