SALISBURY, MD - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team earned second-place at the Salisbury University Tournament today. The Blue Jays finished with a 2-2 record and fell to Salisbury in the championship match, 3-1. On Friday, JHU defeated Villa Julie, 3-1, before falling to Salisbury, 3-1. Hopkins defeated Neumann College, 3-1 this morning to make it to the final match against Salisbury.
Senior outside hitter Emily Miller (Richmond, VA/Governor's School) and junior middle hitter Sarah Payne (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) each earned All-Tournament honors for their play over the weekend. Miller totaled 43 kills and 74 digs in the four matches, while Payne added 34 kills.
Also performing well in the tournament were junior middle hitter Elisabeth Breese (Geneva, NY/Geneva) with 50 kills and 16 total blocks and freshman setter Betsy Baydala (Rockville Centre, NY/South Side) with 21 kills, 126 assists, and 48 digs.
The Blue Jays will return to action Wednesday with a home match against Washington College at 7:00 p.m. JHU holds a 15-7 advantage in the all-time series with the Shorewomen, and has won the last nine meetings. Hopkins will finish the regular season with six straight Centennial Conference matches.
