SWARTHMORE, PA - Sophomore forward Aline Bernard (Nashville, TN/Hume Fogg) scored the go-ahead goal in the 67th minute and added an assist to lead the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Swarthmore in Centennial Conference action today in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. The Blue Jays improved to 8-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the Centennial, while Swarthmore fell to 6-5 overall and 1-5 in CC play.
Bernard's goal, off a feed from freshman forward Jen Baldwin (Medway, MA/Medway), was her third of the season and ninth of her career. She now has seven points for the season on three goals and one assist. Bernard assisted on the opening goal of the game by sophomore midfielder Annie Colabella (East Granby, CT/East Granby) in the 29th minute of the first half.
Swarthmore scored in the 61st minute to tie the score at 1-1, before Bernard tallied her second career game-winning goal. Freshman midfielder Sandra Lebo (Princeton Junction, NJ/West Windsor) capped the scoring in the 86th minute on Baldwin's second assist of the match. Lebo now has two goals and two assists for the year, while Baldwin increased her assist total to eight on the year.
The Blue Jays return to action on Wednesday, October 10 with a home match against Centennial Conference foe Gettysburg beginning at 7:00 p.m.
