Towson, MD - Isaac Brooks scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Goucher College men's basketball team to a 74-66 victory over Johns Hopkins Tuesday night in Towson.
Hopkins senior forward Matthew Eisley (Belle Vernon, PA/Belle Vernon), making his first start of the season after suffering a foot injury, led the Blue Jays with 17 points, and Dan Burruss (Glenn Dale, MD/DeMatha) had his second strong game off the bench with 10 points.
Neither team could take control in a foul-plagued first half, and Hopkins took a 31-29 lead into the break. The Blue Jays took a six-point lead with 16:17 remaining on a lay-up by Eisley, but Goucher rebounded with a 12-2 run to take a 44-40 lead with 12 minutes left. The Blue Jays battled back to take a 45-44 lead on a three-pointer by Eric Toback (Ellicott City, MD/Mount Hebron), and another lay-up by Eisley tied the game at 54 with 4:48 to play.
However, Goucher scored the next eight points to take a 62-54 lead with 1:59 left, and the Blue Jays could only cut the lead to two before the Gophers put the game away at the foul line.
Thabo Letsebe scored 18 points for the Gophers, while Dan Naturale (Bloomfield, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) added eight for Hopkins. Brian Cosgrove (Baltimore, MD/Loyola Blakefield) led the Blue Jays with seven rebounds, as Hopkins out-rebounded its third opponent in as many games. The Blue Jays lost for the second time in three games despite holding Goucher to 33 percent shooting from the field.
Hopkins will look to bounce back at the Trinity Tournament in San Antonio, TX. The Blue Jays face Otterbein in the first round of the tournament on Saturday at 5 p.m. Eastern Time.
