BALTIMORE, MD - Junior guard Ashley Shepler (Tornado, WV/Charleston Catholic) scored 12 points and added a career-high nine assists to lead the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team to a 73-49 win over 17th-ranked Marymount University tonight in Baltimore. The 25th-ranked Blue Jays improved to 5-0, while the Saints fell to 3-2 on the year.
Shepler hit on 3-of-7 three pointers and added five rebounds. Junior center Kathy Darling (Milford, DE/Milford) and sophomore guard Maureen Myers (Waverly, PA/Abington Heights) joined Shepler in double figures with 18 and 13 points, respectively. Darling has scored in double figures in every game this season, while Myers has three double-digit scoring games this year.
With the score 21-18 in JHU's favor with 9:23, the Blue Jays went on a 17-5 run to end the first half with a 38-23 advantage. Hopkins would eventually open a 31-point lead and cruise to victory. For the game, JHU held Marymount to 26 percent shooting from the field and forced 30 turnovers.
Ashlee Courter led Marymount with 12 points, while Candice Brown added 11 before injuring her thumb late in the first half. Katie Jarvis grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds for the Saints and chipped in with nine points.
The Blue Jays return to action Thursday at home against Delaware Valley at 7 p.m. JHU will then travel to face DeSales University at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
