GETTYSBURG, PA - Sophomore guard Maureen Myers (Waverly, PA/Abington Heights) led four players in double figures with 16 points as the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team opened Centennial Conference play with a 76-59 win over Gettysburg tonight. The Blue Jays improved to 7-1 overall, while the Bullets fell to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial Conference.
Hopkins set the tone with a 13-0 run to start the game. Myers totaled 14 of her 16 points in the first half as JHU took a 36-26 lead into the break. The Blue Jays scored the first six points of the second half before Gettysburg went on a 5-0 run of its own to pull within 11 points at 42-31. Hopkins scored the next three points, and the Bullets were unable to get closer than 10 points the rest of the game.
Freshmen Ashanna Randall (Media, PA/Penncrest) and Kelly Rumsey (Atlanta, GA/Marist School) each totaled career-highs with 12 points, and sophomore Trista Snyder (West Chester, PA/Unionville) added 10. Rumsey also grabbed a career-high eight rebounds, while junior center Kathy Darling (Milford, DE/Milford) led the team with 10 rebounds. The Blue Jays tallied 19 assists in the game led by freshman Ashley Felix (Pittsburgh, PA/North Catholic) with a career-high six and sophomore Ashley Shepler (Tornado, WV/Charleston Catholic) with five.
Steph Drevna led Gettysburg with 20 points, while Jay Hodge tallied a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Hopkins returns to action Thursday with a 6 p.m. game at Emory University. JHU will stay on the road for a game against Brandeis on Sunday at noon.
