WALTHAM, MA - The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team overcame 30 percent shooting and 18 turnovers to defeat Brandeis University today in non-conference action. The Blue Jays improved to 9-1 overall, while the Judges fell to 3-4.
Both teams were plagued by poor shooting in the opening half, with each team shooting just 25 percent from the field. Hopkins scored the final seven points of the opening half and took a 23-19 lead at the break after trailing 17-16 with 5:59 remaining. Brandeis outscored JHU 10-3 in the first five minutes of the second half to take a 27-26 lead, before Hopkins regained the lead on a layup by freshman Ashley Felix (Pittsburgh, PA/North Catholic). The Blue Jays would lead the rest of the contest dispite hitting just 4-of-15 free throws in the second half.
Junior center Kathy Darling (Milford, DE/Milford) led Hopkins with 10 points, while Felix added nine points and six rebounds. Sophomore Trista Snyder (West Chester, PA/Unionville) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Brandeis was led by Lindsey Sensenbrenner, who totaled a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Audra Lissell grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. JHU held Brandeis to 25 percent shooting for the game.
The Blue Jays are not scheduled to play again until January 4 with a road game versus Haverford at 7:00 p.m.
