Sept. 15, 2001
BALTIMORE, MD - Freshman forward Jen Baldwin (Medway, MA/Medway) scored on a breakaway in the 15th minute and the defense played a strong match as the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team defeated Haverford, 1-0, in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams.
The Blue Jays (4-0) won their 15th consecutive game and tied a school-record with their seventh straight shutout dating back to the 2000 season. The Fords (4-2) had their three-game winning streak snapped.
Baldwin scored her fourth goal of the season on a breakaway from the left side. She currently leads the team with four goals and 11 points. Junior goalie Shannon O'Malley (Greenlawn, NY/L.I. Lutheran) and the defense held the lead as the Fords managed just four shots.
O'Malley made one save for her second shutout of the year. Sophomore goaltender Jen Trowbridge kept Haverford in the game with nine saves.
The Blue Jays will return to action on Monday, September 17 with a road match against the College of Notre Dame (MD) at 4:30 p.m. JHU defeated the Gators, 2-0 during the 2000 season.
