Reading, PA - Senior forward Matthew Doran (Stormville, NY/John Jay) scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of the match and added two assists to lead the Johns Hopkins men's soccer team to a 6-0 win over Alvernia College Monday afternoon in Reading.
Doran gave the Blue Jays the early lead when he scored off a feed from Chad Tarabolous (Tulsa, OK/Cascia Hall) just 2:10 into the match. Just over three minutes later, Daniel Brienza (Farmingville, NY/Sachem) scored on a header to give Hopkins a two goal lead.
Doran made it 3-0 just 9:13 into the contest when he headed home a corner from Aerik Williams (Columbus, OH/Columbus Academy). The assist was the 29th of Williams' career, making him the career leader at Johns Hopkins. Eric West previously held the record with 28 helpers.
Ryan Hanley (Hickory, NC/St. Stephens) scored his first goal of the season in the 26th minute on a low short cross, as the Blue Jays took a 4-0 lead into the break. Paul Galli (Roslyn, NY/Herricks) recorded his first goal of the season when he scored off a pass from Doran in the 60th minute, and Tarabolous finished the scoring by heading in a cross from Brienza in the 84th minute.
Hopkins goalkeeper Gary Kane, Jr. (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale College) posted six saves in 86 minutes as JHU recorded its fourth consecutive shutout and sixth of the season. The Blue Jays will return to conference action on Wednesday when Hopkins travels to Washington College for a 4 p.m. match.
