BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins volleyball opened its home schedule with an easy 3-0 (30-19, 30-23, 30-21) victory against Villa Julie College tonight in Baltimore. The Blue Jays won their 11th consecutive home match dating back to the 1999 season, and improved to 7-8 overall. The Mustangs fell to 3-6 on the year.
On offense, Hopkins was led by senior outside hitter Emily Miller (Richmond, VA/Governor's School), who tallied a team-high 14 kills, and junior middle hitter Elisabeth Breese (Geneva, NY/Geneva) who added 13 kills with just three hitting errors.
Freshman setter Betsy Baydala (Rockville Centre, NY/South Side) continued her solid play with seven service aces and 22 assists, both team-highs. She also recorded nine digs to tie Miller for the team lead.
Freshman outside hitter Betsy Farmer (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) totaled five aces and five digs for JHU, while senior outside hitter/defensive specialist Courtney Williams (Schaumburg, IL/IL Math & Science Academy) added six digs and an ace.
The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday with a Centennial Conference tri-match against Muhlenberg and Swarthmore at home beginning at 11:00 a.m. JHU leads the all-time series with Muhlenberg, 6-2, and holds a 9-4 advantage all-time against Swarthmore.
