CARLISLE, PA - Junior center Kathy Darling (Milford, DE/Milford) and sophomore forward Trista Snyder (West Chester, PA/Unionville) scored 13 points each as the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team escaped with a narrow 67-63 win over Dickinson in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays improve to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in Centennial play, while the Red Devils fall to 7-8 overall and 1-4 in the Centennial.
Darling added a team-high nine rebounds, while sophomore guard Maureen Myers (Waverly, PA/Abington Heights) chipped in with 10 points and tied her career-highs with six assists and five steals. Freshman forward Ashanna Randall (Media, PA/Penncrest) also played well with eight points and seven rebounds.
With the score tied 9-9 five minutes into the game, JHU went on a 15-0 run to take a 24-9 lead with 8:31 remaining in the half. Dickinson outscored the Blue Jays 17-10 the rest of the half and went into the break trailing 34-26. The Red Devils opened the second half with a 9-2 run to cut JHU's lead to one before Hopkins responded with a 15-3 run to increase the lead to 13 with 9:40 remaining in the game. Dickinson would once again cut the margin to one at 61-60 with just 2:45 left on the clock. A key block by junior guard Ashley Shepler (Tornado, WV/Charleston Catholic) led to a jumper by Myers and the Blue Jays were able to hold on.
Freshman Megan Shelley led the Red Devils with 19 points and was joined in double figures by senior Alexis Falvello and freshman guard Tracee Mosch with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Senior Kristin Brady grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Hopkins returns to action with a road contest at Elizabethtown on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
