Dickinson Uses Big Second Half To Defeat Hopkins, 90-81

Carlisle, PA - Dickinson guard Billy Hagan scored 26 of his career-high 37 points to ignite a huge second half for the Red Devils as the Dickinson College men's basketball team defeated Johns Hopkins, 90-81, Wednesday night at the Kline Center.

Hopkins led 35-28 at halftime and extended its lead to 11 at 45-34 on a free throw by Steve Adams (Butler, PA/Butler) with 16:13 remaining, but the Red Devils went on a 25-6 run over the next eight minutes to take a 59-51 lead. The Blue Jays twice cut the deficit to six in the final two minutes, but each time Hagan hit two free throws to put Dickinson up eight.

Adams led Hopkins with 22 points and senior forward Brian Cosgrove (Baltimore, MD/Loyola Blakefield) added a season-high 20 as the Blue Jays lost their second straight game after winning five in a row. Adams and Cosgrove combined to score the first 21 points of the game for JHU, which led 21-7 at the 12:53 mark of the first half. Hopkins again led by 14 at 26-12 after a basket by Dan Naturale (Bloomfield, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) but Dickinson responded with a 16-9 run to end the stanza.

Hopkins, which lost despite shooting 51.7 percent from the field, got seven points from both Matthew Eisley (Belle Vernon, PA/Belle Vernon) and Matt Righter (Clarion, PA/Lawrenceville Prep), while Kevin Marquez (Oakton, VA/Oakton) pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Tony Beers had 22 points and John Schwadron added a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds for the Red Devils. Hagan, Beers, and Schwadron combined to score 77 of Dickinson's 90 points.

With the win, the Red Devils improve to 7-8 overall and 3-2 in the Centennial Conference. Hopkins, which hosts Western Maryland Saturday at 3 p.m., falls to 8-7 overall and 2-2 in the league.
