FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Freshmen forward Meg McIntosh (Los Angeles, CA/Brentwood) netted two goals and Laura Bauer (Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculate) and Erinn Sosa (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) each added an assist as Johns Hopkins defeated Mary Washington, 2-1 in non-conference women's soccer action this afternoon.
The Eagles opened the scoring in the second minute as Rachelle Chretian took a pass off of a free kick by Joeann Walker to put Mary Washington ahead 1-0. McIntosh put the Blue Jays on the board in the 36th minute off a cross from Bauer to tie the game at 1-1 going into halftime.
In the 66th minute, McIntosh scored her second goal of the game off an assist from Sosa to put Hopkins ahead for good. McIntosh, who scored the game-winning goal in JHU's last game against McDaniel, has five goals in the last three games. She is tied for second on the team with 10 points in just four games.
The Blue Jays outshot Mary Washington 17-7, and held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. Mary Elizabeth Fulco made 10 saves for Mary Washington, while senior Shannon O'Malley (Greenlawn, NY/L.I. Lutheran) made three saves to preserve the win for the Blue Jays.
With their fifth consecutive win, the Blue Jays improved to 11-5-1 on the year. Mary Washington fell to 11-4-1.
The Blue Jays are next in action on Saturday, November 2 as Hopkins hosts Franklin & Marshall in the final home game of the season at 7:00 p.m.
