BALTIMORE, MD - Sophomore Kathleen Turley (New Hyde Park, NY/New Hyde Park) scored in the 84th minute to secure a 1-1 tie against Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference women's soccer action tonight at Homewood Field.
With the tie, the Blue Jays have earned a berth in the Centennial Conference Tournament and are 11-5-2 overall and 6-2-1 in the conference. The Diplomats remained in second place in the conference with a 13-1-2 overall record and a 7-0-2 mark in Centennial play. Franklin & Marshall, Muhlenberg and Gettysburg have also secured a spot in the tournament, and JHU's game versus Gettysburg on Tuesday will decide the third and fourth seeds.
Heather Rice opened the scoring in the 22nd minute for Franklin & Marshall as she scored on a free kick that deflected off the Blue Jay wall and past senior goaltender Shannon O'Malley (Greenlawn, NY/Long Island Lutheran). Turley tied the game with her team-leading seventh goal of the year as she sent a volley into the left corner of the net off an assist from sophomore Jenn Sciarpelletti (Sleepy Hollow, NY/Scarsdale).
O'Malley made three saves for Hopkins as the Blue Jays outshot the Diplomats 14-8 and held a 4-1 advantage on corner kicks. Melissa Ruff stopped six shots for Franklin & Marshall.
The Blue Jays conclude the regular season Tuesday as Hopkins travel to face Gettysburg at 2:30 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for October 16, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
