Baltimore, MD - Johns Hopkins senior forward Steve Adams (Butler, PA/Butler) recorded team-highs of 15 points and eight rebounds to lead the Johns Hopkins men's basketball team to a 67-53 win over Goucher Tuesday night at Goldfarb Gymnasium.

With 8:14 remaining in the first half, Adams hit two free throws to score his 1,000th and 1,001st points, becoming just the 11th Blue Jay in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Later in the half Adams pulled down his 500th career rebound to become the 10th player ever at Hopkins to reach the 500-rebound mark.

However, Adams picked up his fourth foul with 13:54 remaining in the game with the Blue Jays up 39-34, and Hopkins held still had a five-point lead at 46-41 with 9:06 left. The Blue Jays then blew the game open with a 17-2 run over the next six minutes to go up 61-43 with 3:12 remaining, and Adams did not need to return.

JHU senior guard Brendan Kamm (Avon, NJ/Somerville) started the run with a jumper at the 8:26 mark, and then hit sophomore forward Eric Toback (Ellicott City, MD/Mount Hebron) for a three-pointer at the top of the key to give Hopkins a 10-point lead. Isaac Brooks hit two free throws for Goucher with 5:59 to play, but Kamm hit a foul shot and senior center Mike Blaine (Washington, DC/Bishop Ireton) added a dunk with 5:01 remaining to make it a 54-43 lead.

Blaine, who finished with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field, then scored on a lay-up, and following a Goucher timeout junior guard Kevin Marquez (Oakton, VA/Oakton) hit a lay-up to put Hopkins up 58-43 at the 3:56 mark. On the Blue Jays' next possession Kamm was fouled shooting a three-pointer, and he hit all three foul shots to end the run.

The Blue Jays move to 3-0 with the win, the first time since the 1998-99 season Hopkins has opened a year with three wins. Goucher falls to 1-2 on the season.

Hopkins jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first 4:48 of the contest, as Adams scored all 10 points. The Gophers cut the lead to seven at 30-23 with 2:15 remaining in the first half, but sophomore forward Marc Leone (Radnor, PA/Radnor) hit a late three-pointer to send the Blue Jays to the half up 33-23.

Goucher, which had won the last three meetings with Hopkins, cut the lead to 39-36 with 12:43 left but could not get closer. Lafayette Melton led the Gophers with 12 points, while Jonathan Garritt added 11 off the bench. JHU senior guard Jay Kreider (Sykesville, MD/River Hill) scored eight points and pulled down five rebounds for the Blue Jays, while junior guard Matt Righter (Clarion, PA/Lawrenceville Prep) chipped in seven points.
