McIntosh Leads Hopkins Past Gettysburg, 3-2 in Double Overtime

GETTYSBURG, PA - Freshman forward Meg McIntosh (Los Angeles, CA/Brentwood) scored two goals including the game winner in the second overtime to give the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team a 3-2 win over Gettysburg in Centennial Conference action this afternoon.

With the win, Hopkins finishes the regular season with a 12-5-2 overall record and a 7-2-1 mark in the conference. The Blue Jays have earned the third seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament and will face #2 seed Franklin & Marshall Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in one semifinal game. Gettysburg, 10-6-2 overall and 6-4 in Centennial play, has earned the fourth seed and will play host Muhlenberg in the first semifinal at 11:30 a.m. The winners of the two semifinal matches will advance to the final on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

McIntosh, who has scored seven goals in the last five games, tallied her third game-winning goal in the last four games off an assist from sophomore Sandra Lebo (Princeton Junction, NJ/W. Windsor-Plainsboro) with just under five minutes remaining in the second overtime. McIntosh is tied for the team lead with seven goals and second with 14 points.

McIntosh gave Hopkins a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute of the game as scored off assists from senior Jill Minger (Durham, OR/St. Mary's) and Lebo. The assist for Minger was the 16th of her career, a JHU record. She also moved into fourth place at Hopkins with 54 career points.

The Bullets tied the game four minutes later as Liz Wesolowski chipped a shot over senior Shannon O'Malley (Greenlawn, NY/Long Island Lutheran). Gettysburg then took a 2-1 lead nine minutes into the second half as Christina Ditucci scored on a rebound off an O'Malley save. The Blue Jays received help from Gettysburg nine minutes later as the Bullets scored an own goal in the 63rd minute to tie the game at 2-2.

Gettysburg held JHU without a shot in the second half and outshot Hopkins 16-8 for the game. O'Malley recorded a season-high 12 saves for Hopkins and has 234 career stops in 60 games. Katie Simmons made three stops for the Bullets.
