Hopkins Falls to Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Semifinals

GETTYSBURG, PA - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team was defeated by Franklin & Marshall, 3-1 (30-23, 25-30, 19-30, 22-30) this afternoon in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Tournament at Gettysburg. The Blue Jays finish the season with a 20-21 overall record, while Franklin & Marshall improves to 28-8 and advances to the conference finals.

Hopkins took the first game, 30-23, before the Diplomats rebounded to win the final three games. Junior Samantha Raggi (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) led the Blue Jays with 15 kills against just three errors, while junior Stephanie Kaliades (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) tallied 12 kills to finish the year with a team-high 451 kills.

Senior Elisabeth Breese (Geneva, NY/Geneva) added nine kills without an error in 23 attempts and sophomore Skye Young (Salisbury, MD/James M. Bennett) chipped in with seven kills, three aces, two blocks and six digs. Young also added three aces and two blocks.

Senior Courtney Cromwell (Westbury, NY/Carle Place) led JHU with 39 assists and 11 digs, while sophomore Betsy Baydala (Rockville Centre, NY/South Side) and freshman Kate O'Callaghan (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) both collected 10 digs on the afternoon.

Hopkins won 20 matches for the third time in four seasons under head coach Chris Weidenborner, and reached its third straight Centennial Conference Tournament.
