ARLINGTON, VA - Sophomore guard Ashley Felix (Pittsburgh, PA/North Catholic) scored a running one-hander with 18 seconds remaining to give the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team a 70-69 win over Marymount University this afternoon in non-conference action at the Verizon Sports Arena. The Blue Jays improved to 6-1 with their fifth straight win, while Marymount fell to 4-3 on the year.

Marymount held a 69-66 lead with 1:48 remaining before sophomore forward Ashanna Randall (Media, PA/Penncrest) cut the margin to two with a free throw and Felix added a free throw to draw Hopkins within one with 1:09 left in the game. Following a Marymount turnover and a JHU timeout, Felix took the ball down the left side of the lane for the game-winner. The Saints brought the ball down the court and set up a play, but a last-second jumper by Katie Jarvis was unable to find the net.

The Blue Jays opened the game on an 8-0 run as senior guard Ashley Shepler (Tornado, WV/Charleston Catholic) and sophomore guard Alissa Burkholder (Allentown PA/Salisbury) nailed three pointers and Randall added a bucket. JHU increased the lead to 30-17 at the 7:16 mark on a short jumper by Burkholder, but Marymount stormed back with a 17-4 run to close the half at 34-34.

The second half featured five ties and four lead changes in the first nine minutes before the Saints increased the lead to eight at 63-55 with 4:45 remaining. Hopkins responded with an 11-4 run capped by a jumper from Shepler to cut the margin to 67-66 with 2:05 left in the game.

Shepler led the Blue Jays with a season-high 15 points and added five rebounds, while Randall and senior center Kathy Darling (Milford, DE/Milford) both reached double figures with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Felix and Burkholder finished with eight points apiece, while Felix collected a team-high five assists. Junior guard Maureen Myers (Waverly, PA/Abington Heights) registered nine points and five rebounds.

Jodie Knotts led four Saints in double figures with 15 points and added five assists. Ashlee Courter tallied 12 points, while Annetta Benjamin and Patricia Murphy both scored 10 points for Marymount. Courter totaled a game-high seven assists, and Katie Jarvis grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Blue Jays return to action January 2 as Hopkins travels to Monterey Bay, California for the Monterey Bay Classic. JHU will face Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday, January 2 and Nichols College on Friday, January 3.
