BALTIMORE, MD - Junior center Kathy Darling (Milford, DE/Milford) scored a game-high 22 points in just 21 minutes of playing time to lead the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team to an 89-55 victory over visiting Dickinson in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays improved to 18-5 overall and 9-3 in Centennial play, while Dickinson dropped their fourth straight to fall to 9-14 overall and 2-10 in CC action.
Hopkins held a 23-17 lead before closing the first half on a 22-6 run to take a 45-23 lead at halftime. Dickinson cut the lead to 53-36 with 15:38 remaining, but JHU responded with a 19-2 run to take a 72-38 lead and put the game away.
Darling hit eight of her nine shots in the first half as she totaled 18 points and six rebounds at the break. She finished 10-of-12 for the game to improve her field goal percentage to 61 percent for the season. Junior forward Jennifer Dearborn (Farmington, CT/Farmington) had her best game of the season as tallied the second double-double of her career with a season-high 13 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Ashley Felix (Pittsburgh, PA/North Catholic) also scored in double figures with 10 points.
Junior guard Ashley Shepler (Tornado, WV/Charleston Catholic) dished out a game-high five assists and added nine points for the Blue Jays, who have now defeated Dickinson in 13 consecutive meetings. Hopkins shot 48 percent from the field compared to 32 percent for the Red Devils. Senior forward Alexis Falvello led Dickinson with 13 points, while senior forward Kristin Brady and freshman guard Megan Shelley added 12 points each. Brady also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Blue Jays return to action on Tuesday with a key Centennial Conference game at Western Maryland at 7:00 p.m. Hopkins currently has a one-game lead on the Green Terror for second place in the CC West Division.
