March 3, 2002

Durham, NC - Five different Blue Devils scored two goals each as the No. 2 Duke University women's lacrosse team defeated Johns Hopkins, 11-3, Sunday afternoon.

Duke, which defeated No. 1 Maryland, 9-8, in its previous game, improved to 3-0 on the season, while Hopkins fell to 0-3.

Katie Laschinger opened the scoring for the Blue Devils when she scored off a feed from Claire Sullivan just 4:38 into the game, but senior midfielder Christy Peterson (Fallston, MD/Fallston) pulled the Blue Jays even with an unassisted goal three minutes later.

Kelly Dirks and Sullivan each found the back of the net to give Duke a 3-1 lead, but JHU sophomore midfielder Heidi Pearce (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew's) cut the lead to one when she scored an unassisted goal with just 57 seconds left in the first half. However, Lauren Gallagher scored with 16 seconds remaining and Caline McHenry scored a free position goal as time expired to give the Blue Devils a 5-2 halftime lead.

Duke blew the game open with four goals in a six minute span early in the second half to take a 9-2 lead. The Blue Devils tacked on another goal before Hopkins freshman midfielder Kristen Miller (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) scored her first career goal on a free position shot with 2:12 left in the game. Duke attacker Jessica Bennett scored with 25 seconds remaining to conclude the scoring.
