Hopkins Falls to Haverford, 1-0, in Centennial Opener

HAVERFORD, PA - Haverford freshman MeeJean Kim scored with less than two minutes remaining to lift the host Fords to a 1-0 win over the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team this afternoon in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams. The Blue Jays drop to 4-3-1 with the loss, while Haverford improves to 6-2.

The Blue Jays controlled the action for most of the game with a 29-4 advantage in shots, but could not find the back of the net. Kim capitalized on her opportunity off an assist from Cathy Carbonaro with just 1:19 left to play. Haverford keeper Jen Trowbridge had a spectacular day in goal as she stopped 18 Blue Jay shots to give the Fords the win.

Senior Shannon O'Malley (Greenlawn, NY/Long Island Lutheran) made three saves for JHU, which lost its Centennial opener for the first time since 1994.

The Blue Jays look to rebound on Wednesday, September 25 as JHU travels to face Dickinson at 6:30 p.m.
