Baltimore, MD - Junior forward Chad Tarabolous (Tulsa, OK/Cascia Hall) scored a goal and assisted on another to lead the Johns Hopkins men's soccer team to a 4-0 shutout of Swarthmore Saturday night at Homewood Field.
The Blue Jays won their second straight and improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference, while Swarthmore fell to 4-3-1 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Senior midfielder Adam Hack (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) got Hopkins on the board in the 25th minute by taking a feed from senior midfielder Daniel Brienza (Farmingville, NY/Sachem) and blasting a shot from about 40 yards out past Garnet Tide goalkeeper Reuben Hayman-Kantor, and just over four minutes later Tarabolous headed a cross to freshman midfielder Matt LeBoeuf (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore), who scored his first collegiate goal to make it a 2-0 game.
Freshman forward Edmond Wybaillie (Great Falls, VA/Langley) added a goal when he scored off a beautiful feed from Brienza, and the Blue Jays took a three-goal lead into halftime.
Tarabolous scored the final goal of the match by heading home a corner kick from senior defender Greg Mangels (Glenside, PA/Cheltenham).
JHU sophomore goalkeeper Gary Kane, Jr. (Lansdale, PA/LaSalle College) made one save and senior Nicholas Challen (Southborough, MA/Algonquin Regional) did not have to stop a shot as the Blue Jays recorded their fifth shutout of the season. Hopkins dominated the action, holding an 18-3 shot advantage and a 13-0 edge in corner kicks.
The Blue Jays step out of conference on Wednesday when Hopkins travels to No. 24 Arcadia for a 4 p.m. match.
