Glenside, PA - Arcadia senior Tom DeGeorge scored in the 34th minute and junior Yibur Mezani added an insurance goal in the 66th minute as the Scarlet Knights defeated Johns Hopkins, 2-0, in men's soccer action Wednesday afternoon.
Arcadia, ranked No. 4 in the Mid-Atlantic Region, improved to 8-2 with the win, while the fifth-ranked Blue Jays fell to 6-2 on the season.
The Scarlet Knights out-shot Hopkins, 12-9, while JHU held a slim 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman forward Edmond Wybaillie (Great Falls, VA/Langley) came off the bench to record four shots for the Blue Jays, while sophomore goalkeeper Gary Kane, Jr. (Lansdale, PA/LaSalle College) made seven saves in the match. Arcadia keeper Ralph Gianguilio stopped nine shots to record the shutout.
Hopkins, which following the Centenary match had gone 62 consecutive matches without being shut out, has now been blanked in two of its last four contests. The Blue Jays look to rebound Saturday when JHU travels to Collegeville, PA, to take on Centennial Conference foe Ursinus at 1 p.m.
