BALTIMORE, MD - Five players totaled five kills or more as Johns Hopkins used a balanced offensive attack to defeat Villa Julie, 3-1 (30-24, 30-25, 31-33, 30-23) Wednesday night in non-conference volleyball action. The Blue Jays improved to 9-11 with their third straight win, while Villa Julie fell to 3-9 overall.
Freshman Jen Hajj (Boca Raton, FL/Pope John Paul IV) led Hopkins with nine kills, while senior Elisabeth Breese (Geneva, NY/Geneva) and junior Samantha Raggi (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) both added six kills. The trio also combined for four solo blocks and five block assists. With her five blocks, Breese now has 280 for her career to rank fifth all-time at Hopkins.
Sophomore Betsy Farmer (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) and junior Stephanie Kaliades (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) chipped in with five kills apiece, while Kaliades collected a team-high seven digs. Senior Courtney Cromwell (Westbury, NY/Carle Place) was second on the squad with six digs, while sophomores Betsy Baydala (Rockville Centre, NY/South Side) and Erin Trish (Edgartown, MA/Northfield Mount Hermon) each totaled five digs in the match.
Hopkins is next in action Saturday as the Blue Jays host the Johns Hopkins Invitational. JHU will face NYU at 10:00 a.m., Capital at 2:00 p.m., and Eastern at 5:00 p.m.
