BALTIMORE, MD - Sophomore midfielder Kathleen Turley (New Hyde Park, NY/New Hyde Park) headed in a rebound off a corner kick with five minutes left in the second overtime to give the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over visiting Muhlenberg tonight in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays, who snapped Muhlenberg's 14-game Centennial winning streak, improve to 5-4-1 overall and 1-2 in the conference with the win, while the Mules fall to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in CC play.
Turley's first goal of the season came amid a group of players in front of the net after sophomore Sandra Lebo (Princeton Junction, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro) headed the corner kick from junior Erinn Sosa (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) off the crossbar. The goal was the fifth for Turley in her career. Four of JHU's 10 games this season have gone into overtime, with the Blue Jays posting a 2-1-1 record in those contests.
Each team had opportunities to score in the first have with both JHU and Muhlenberg hitting the crossbar. Hopkins controlled much of overtime and finished the game with a 15-9 advantage in shots and a 6-5 margin on corner kicks. Senior Shannon O'Malley (Greenlawn, NY/Long Island Lutheran) earned her third shutout of the season as she made four stops on the evening. Kim Laurino stopped eight JHU shots for the Mules.
Hopkins returns to action Saturday, October 5th as the Blue Jays host Ursinus at 4:00 p.m. for a Centennial Conference game.
