BRYN MAWR, PA - Senior center Kathy Darling (Milford, DE/Milford) scored a game-high 18 points on 9-of-12 shooting as the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team cruised to an 82-36 win over Bryn Mawr in Centennial Conference action tonight at Schwartz Gymnasium in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
Freshman forward Amanda Leese (Amherst, NH/Bishop Guertin) scored a career-high 13 points and sophomore guard Ashley Felix (Pittsburgh, PA/North Catholic) tied her career-high with 13 points as the Blue Jays improved to 10-3 overall and remained perfect in the conference with a 4-0 mark. Bryn Mawr fell to 0-12 on the year and 0-6 in conference play.
Hopkins scored the first four points of the game and increased the lead to 22-8 at the 11:37 mark following a basket by Darling. Darling and sophomore forward Ashanna Randall (Media, PA/Penncrest) combined for 17 points in the opening run. The Owls cut the lead to 27-16 with 8:14 left in the opening period, but JHU answered with a 13-5 run to take a 40-21 advantage into the break. Darling scored 16 of her 18 points in the opening stanza. Leading 51-25 five minutes into the second half, the Blue Jays went on a 14-0 run to take a 65-25 lead with 9:51 remaining and put the game out of reach.
Leese scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half and added a career-high five rebounds. Felix collected a game-high four assists and recorded four steals, while Randall finished with nine points and four steals. Sophomore guard Alissa Burkholder (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) scored nine points and tied her career-high with seven rebounds, while senior guard Ashley Shepler (Tornado, WV/Charleston Catholic) chipped in with eight points and three steals.
Hopkins shot 49.3 percent (34-of-69) from the field and outrebounded the Owls 43-30. Bryn Mawr turned the ball over 20 times and shot just 23.5 percent (12-of-51) for the game. Deb Charamella, Mary Kutteruf, and JoAnn Gage each scored seven points for the Owls. Charamella collected six rebounds, three assists, and four steals, while Gage grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
The Blue Jays return to action Monday as Hopkins travels to face Delaware Valley in a non-conference contest at 7:00 p.m.
