BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins wrestling team lost to Ursinus College, 22-18 in Centennial Conference action this evening in Goldfarb Gymnasium. With their first Centennial loss of the season, the Blue Jays fell to 5-8 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Ursinus improved to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in its conference opener.

The Bears opened a 19-3 lead by winning five of the first six bouts of the evening. Sophomore 141 Jason Suslavich (Winchester, MA/Winchester) recorded the lone JHU victory in the stretch with a 6-2 decision. He tied freshman 125 John Witzenbocker (Merrick, NY/Chaminade) for the team lead with his 15th win of the year.

Junior 174 Mike Yuhaniak (Bethesda, MD/Churchill) started the Hopkins comeback as he earned his first pin of the season at the 4:31 mark. Junior 184 Rob Curry (Dayton, OH/Oakwood) brought the Blue Jays within four at 19-15 as he recorded a dramatic pin with just 11 seconds left in the third period.

Hopkins had a chance to close the gap, but 197 Travis Allred sealed the victory as he put the Bears up by seven points with a 4-2 win by decision. Junior 285 Karol Gryczynski (Ellicott City, MD/Mount Hebron) won the final match of the night by an 8-4 decision. The win was the 50th for Gryczynski for his career.

The Blue Jays return to action Tuesday, February 4 as Hopkins hosts McDaniel in Centennial Conference action. JHU was scheduled to compete at Scranton this Saturday, but the trip has been cancelled.
