Blue Jays Take Both matches

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team won both matches against Franklin & Marshall and Ursinus on Saturday at Goldfarb Gymnasium. The Blue Jays defeated the Diplomats in the first match with scores of 30-21, 30-26 and 32-30. In the second match JHU were victorious again in three games with scores of 30-14, 30-25 and 30-18. Hopkins improves to 3-1 in the conference and 16-6 overall, marking its best start since 1997 when they started out 19-3.

In the first victory JHU was able to pull away late in each game winning 3-0. Senior outside hitter Stephanie Kaliades (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) recorded kills, while junior setter Betsy Baydala (Rockville Centre, NY/South Side) led the Blue Jays with 37 assists. Sophomore outside hitter Kate O'Callaghan (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) was a force defensively with 13 digs.

In the second game Hopkins won in dominating fashion. Baydala led JHU with 36 assists and Kaliades added 15 kills, while O'Callgahan recorded 12 digs. Senior middle hitter Samantha Raggi (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) delivered seven aces in the 3-0 victory.

The Blue Jays travel to conference rival McDaniel to play on Wednesday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m.
