Baltimore, MD - Blue Jay freshman forward Moath Hamzeh (Clarksville, MD/River Hill) scored the only goal of the match to lead the No. 20 Johns Hopkins men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Arcadia Saturday night at Homewood Field.
The Blue Jays, who are also ranked third in the Mid-Atlantic Region, improved to 10-1-1 on the season and won their fifth straight, while Arcadia, ranked sixth in the region, had its 10-match winning streak snapped and fell to 10-2-1.
Hamzeh scored his second career goal at the 68:54 mark when he collected a pass from senior forward Chad Tarabolous (Tulsa, OK/Cascia Hall) six yards out at the near post and beat Scarlet Knights goalkeeper Ralph Giangulio high for the only goal of the match.
The assist was the 20th of Tarabolous' career, moving him into a tie for sixth place on the Hopkins career assists list.
JHU junior goalkeeper Gary Kane, Jr. (Lansdale, PA/LaSalle College) made two saves to record his seventh shutout of the season and extend his scoreless streak to 460:11. Giangiulio stopped four shots for Arcadia, which had defeated Hopkins in each of the past two seasons.
The Blue Jays, who held an 8-6 shot advantage, travel to Gettysburg Wednesday for a 4 p.m. match with the Bullets.
