Baltimore, MD - Three different Blue Jay players scored goals as the Johns Hopkins men's soccer team defeated Ursinus, 3-0, Saturday night at Homewood Field.
Hopkins improved to 12-2-1 overall and 5-2 in the Centennial Conference, while the Bears fell to 4-11-2 overall and 0-5-2 in league play.
The Blue Jays struck first 15:52 into the match when junior forward Doug Pollack (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) fed senior forward Chad Tarabolous (Tulsa, OK/ Cascia Hall), who beat Ursinus goalkeeper Brian Berkowitz from about 12 yards out. Hopkins made it a 2-0 game at the 74:53 mark when sophomore midfielder Traver Davis (South Orange, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) deflected home a corner kick by Rob Morrison (Malibu, CA/Loyola). Sophomore defender Jeff Grosser (Beach Haven, NJ/Shawnee) tacked on an insurance goal with just 1:03 remaining by tapping home a rebound after junior midfielder Chris Brown (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) had hit the post.
Blue Jay junior goalkeeper Gary Kane, Jr. (Lansdale, PA/LaSalle College) made just one save, but it was spectacular. In the 20th minute the Bears were awarded a free kick about 20 yards out and Tom Hanlin hit a rocket toward the upper right corner of the goal, but Kane, Jr. dove and deflected the ball wide.
Berkowitz made 10 saves, as Hopkins out-shot Ursinus, 29-1. Tarabolous, Morrison, and sophomore midfielder Matt LeBoeuf (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) each had a shot hit the post.
