LANCASTER, Pa. -- Freshmen Lauren Baumann (Milford, MI/Greenmills School) and Kaitlin Giannetti (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) both scored first half goals and the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team held off a late rally by host Franklin & Marshall as the Blue Jays picked up a 2-1 Centennial Conference victory in the regular-season finale. The Blue Jays improve to 13-5-1, 7-3 in the Centennial Conference and will play Gettysburg in the Centennial Conference Semifinals next Saturday at Muhlenberg. The Blue Jays have earned the number three seed in the tournament and are the defending tournament champions.
Baumann gave the Blue Jays the lead at the 15:37 mark when she scored off an assist from junior Jenn Sciarpelletti (Sleepy Hollow, NY/Scarsdale). Giannetti's unassisted goal at the 43:19 mark pushed the lead to 2-0. The goal for Baumann was her sixth of the season, while Giannetti tallied for the fifth time.
The Diplomats made the final 10 minutes interesting when Emily Knapp scored in the 82nd minute off an assist from Kate Gardner. However, the Johns Hopkins defense held on to secure Hopkins' fourth straight victory.
