SALISBURY, Md -- Salisbury University won the first two games handily and then came from behind to win the third game as the Sea Gulls posted a 3-0 (30-16, 30-22, 31-29) victory over Johns Hopkins in volleyball action Saturday afternoon. The win is the 15th straight for Salisbury, which improves to 25-6 on the year. Johns Hopkins, which was the last team to beat Salisbury (9/20), slips to 22-7.
Hopkins led the final game, 27-21, only to have the Sea Gulls rally with a 10-2 run down the stretch. The Blue Jays got 33 assists from junior Betsy Baydala (Rockville Centre, NY/South Side), 10 kills from senior Stephanie Kaliades (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and 18 digs from sophomore Kate O'Callaghan (Babylon, NY/West Babylon). Salisbury was led by freshman Abbey Petrecca, who had 26 assists and eight digs.
Johns Hopkins has already clinched the number two seed in next week's Centennial Conference Tournament and will play Franklin & Marshall in the semifinals. Top-seeded Gettysburg will host the tournament and play Haverford in the other semifinal.
