Box Score

Baltimore, MD - Johns Hopkins sophomore forward Amanda Leese (Amherst, GA/Bishop Guertin) scored a career-high 19 points and added six rebounds as the 25th-ranked Blue Jay women's basketball team defeated Swarthmore, 67-47, Tuesday night at Goldfarb Gymnasium.

Hopkins, which improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the league, has now won 15 straight regular season games and 12 consecutive home games dating back to last season. The 7-0 start for the Blue Jays is tied for the second longest winning streak to start a season in school history, as the 1997-98 team began its season with eight straight victories. Swarthmore fell to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

JHU senior guard Trista Snyder (West Chester, PA/Unionville) scored eight points, while senior guard Maureen Myers (Waverly, PA/Abington Heights) chipped in seven to go along with five steals. Junior guard Ashley Felix (Pittsburgh, PA/North Catholic) had a solid all-around game with five points, five rebounds, three assists, and six steals, while junior forward Ashanna Randall (Media, PA/Penncrest) scored six points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

Two-time Centennial Conference Player of the Year Katie Robinson led the Garnet Tide with a game-high 20 points, while Zoey Adams-Deutsch added 10 points and five rebounds. Radiance Walters narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and a game-high 11 boards.

The Blue Jays wasted little time taking control, as Hopkins used a 21-6 run to turn an early 5-4 deficit into a 25-11 lead with 8:33 remaining in the first half. Swarthmore scored nine straight points to get within five at 25-20 at the 5:33 mark, but the Blue Jays ended the half on a 14-4 spurt, and a jumper by Leese at the buzzer gave Hopkins a 39-24 lead at the break.

The Garnet Tide cut their deficit to 13 twice early in the second half, but could get no closer the rest of the way. The Blue Jays took their largest lead of the contest at 59-35 on a three-pointer by freshman forward Julie Miller (Annandale, VA/Thomas Jefferson) with 6:33 to play and cruised from there.

Hopkins returns to action Saturday when the Blue Jays travel to Center Valley, PA, to take on DeSales at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs are ranked 18th in the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Division III Top 25 Preseason Coaches' Poll.
