Hopkins Defeats Dickinson, 67-53 for Sixth Straight Win

CARLISLE, PA - Senior center Kathy Darling (Milford, DE/Milford) led four players in double figures with 16 points to lead Johns Hopkins to a 67-53 win over Dickinson this afternoon in Centennial Conference women's basketball action.

The Blue Jays, who improved to 17-5 overall and 11-1 in the conference with their sixth straight win, clinched first place in the Centennial's West Division. McDaniel, which was second in the division with an 8-3 mark, fell to Gettysburg, 78-70 Saturday afternoon. Dickinson fell to 8-15 overall and 4-8 in conference action.

Dickinson led for much of the first half before the teams settled for a 32-32 deadlock at halftime. Hopkins made a run midway through the second half to take a 50-37 lead at the 10:14 mark. The Red Devils cut the deficit to six with just under six minutes on the clock, but could draw no closer down the stretch.

Darling scored in double figures for the 20th consecutive game as she was 6-of-12 from the field. She added five rebounds and two steals. Senior guard Ashley Shepler (Tornado, WV/Charleston Catholic), junior guard Trista Snyder (West Chester, PA/Unionville) and sophomore guard Alissa Burkholder (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) each scored 11 points for the Blue Jays, while sophomore forward Ashanna Randall (Media, PA/Penncrest) chipped in with eight points.

Shepler registered her first career double-double as she grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds, while adding a game-high four assists and three steals. Randall and sophomore forward Kelly Rumsey (Atlanta, GA/Marist) both totaled seven rebounds, while Rumsey collected two blocks. The Blue Jays shot 46 percent (25-of-54) for the game, including 52 percent (12-for-23) in the second half. JHU also held a 38-31 rebounding advantage.

Dickinson sophomore Jen Reitmeyer led all scorers with a game-high 19 points and added seven rebounds. Freshman Julie Younes led the Red Devils with nine rebounds, seven of which were on the defensive side. Dickinson was held to 35 percent (18-for-51) shooting from the field, including just 25 percent (7-for-27) in the second half.

The Blue Jays return to action Wednesday as Hopkins plays host to McDaniel at 6:00 p.m. in the final home game of the regular season.
