No. 19 Blue Jays Race Past Davidson, 15-6

Baltimore, MD - Johns Hopkins freshman attacker Sarah Walsh (Port Washington, NY/P.D. Schreiber) scored a career-high five goals while senior attacker Meghan Burnett (Auburn, NY/Auburn) added three goals and three assists in the No. 19 Blue Jays' 15-6 win over Davidson Friday night at Homewood Field.

Junior attacker Heidi Pearce (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew's) recorded three goals and an assist while senior attacker Liz Holland (Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales) added two assists for Hopkins, which improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the American Lacrosse Conference.

The Blue Jays, who improved to 5-0 all-time against the Wildcats, put the game away early by scoring seven of the first eight goals. Walsh opened the scoring just 47 seconds into the game with a goal off an assist from Burnett, and 1:12 later freshman midfielder Meagan Voight (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) scored off a Burnett feed to make it a 2-0 game. Burnett then scored an unassisted goal to give Hopkins a three-goal lead just 2:37 into the game.

Whitney Diefendorf scored off an assist from Eloise Grose to make it a 3-1 game at the 26:21 mark, but the Blue Jays would pull away by scoring the next four goals of the contest. Walsh scored the first two goals of the run off assists from Holland, and after Burnett scored an unassisted goal, Pearce scored off a Burnett pass to give Hopkins a 7-1 lead with 14:52 left in the half.

Loren Seaton answered for Davidson, which fell to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in league play, with 13:16 remaining, but Walsh scored off a Pearce assist at the 8:26 mark to give Hopkins an 8-2 lead at the half.

Diefendorf opened the second half scoring with an unassisted goal just 50 seconds into the period, but the Blue Jays scored the game's next five goals to take a commanding 13-3 advantage with 13:38 to play. Pearce began the spurt with an unassisted goal with 28:11 remaining, and after sophomore attacker Erin Riordan (Brightwaters, NY/Bay Shore) tallied an unassisted goal with 27:23 to play, Burnett added an unassisted goal just 10 seconds later to make it an eight-goal lead. After the teams went scoreless over the ensuing 12 minutes, Walsh and Pearce scored unassisted goals to end the run.

Becca McDevitt scored a free position goal for Davidson at the 10:36 mark, but JHU junior midfielder Kate Barcomb (Middlebury, VT/Middlebury) answered with an unassisted goal with 8:41 to play. Seaton and Grose scored consecutive goals for the Wildcats before sophomore midfielder Anne Crisafulli (Garden City, NY/Garden City) ended the scoring with an unassisted goal with 16 seconds left.

Hopkins senior goalkeeper Jen McDonald (Garden City, NY/Garden City) made three saves in just under 51 minutes, while Becca Nussbaum stopped 15 shots in the Davidson goal.

The Blue Jays return to action next Friday when they take on Northwestern at 1 p.m. Central in Nashville, TN.
