Nashville, TN - Johns Hopkins junior midfielder Kate Barcomb (Middlebury, VT/Middlebury) scored three goals and added two assists while senior attacker Meghan Burnett (Auburn, NY/Auburn) recorded three goals and an assist to lead the No. 18 Blue Jay women's lacrosse team to a 14-7 victory over No. 19 Northwestern Friday afternoon at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.

Freshman midfielder Kelley Putnam (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) also scored three goals for Hopkins, which won its third straight game to improve to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the American Lacrosse Conference. Northwestern lost its third in a row to fall to 5-3 overall and 1-3 in league play.

The Blue Jays jumped out to a 4-0 lead 18 minutes into the game, but the Wildcats cut the advantage to 5-2 at the break when Courtney Flynn scored a free position goal as the first half expired. Courtney Koester then scored consecutive free position goals to open the second period, and Lynda McCandlish followed with a goal off an asssist from Laura Glassanos, as Northwestern tied the game at 5-5 with 23:27 remaining.

However, Hopkins responded by scoring nine of the game's next 10 goals to put the contest away. Freshman attacker Sarah Walsh (Port Washington, NY/P.D. Walsh increased the JHU lead to three by scoring an unassisted goal with 13:45 mark to play, and Putman and Barcomb scored unassisted goals to give Hopkins a 10-5 advantage with 9:22 remaining. Crisafulli ended the run with a goal off a feed from Voight 54 seconds later.

Donna McCann brought Northwestern within 11-6 by scoring a free position goal at the 8:20 mark, but Barcomb responded less than a minute later by scoring off a pass from junior attacker Heidi Pearce (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew's). Barcomb then found Burnett for consecutive goals to make it a 14-6 game with 2:10 to play. Lindsey Munday accounted for the final score with a free position goal with 49 seconds remaining.

JHU senior goalkeeper Jen McDonald (Garden City, NY/Garden City) made nine saves for the Blue Jays, while Ashley Gersuk stopped 10 shots for the Wildcats.

Putman opened the scoring with 28:15 remaining in the first half as she scored an unassisted goal, and just 48 seconds later Burnett scored off a feed from senior attacker Liz Holland (Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales) to make it a 2-0 game. After Barcomb scored a free position goal at the 15:00 mark, sophomore defender Kristen Miller (Towson, MD/Notre Dame Prep) scored her second goal of the season with 11:57 left to give Hopkins a four-goal lead.

Koester put Northwestern on the board with 8:09 remaining, and after Putman answered by scoring off an assist from Burnett at the 2:57 mark, Flynn scored as time expired to make it a 5-2 game at the half.
