BALTIMORE, Md. - The Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team had three players selected in the 2003 Major League Lacrosse College Draft on Thursday, May 23. Midfielder Adam Doneger, defenseman Michael Peyser and attackman Bobby Benson were three of the 30 players selected in the draft, which took place at the Haverford School outside Philadelphia.
Doneger was the seventh overall selection and was drafted by Rochester with the Rattlers' first pick of the second round. Doneger was a two-time First Team All-American at Johns Hopkins and is a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award. He scored a career-high 28 goals and added seven assists for the Blue Jays this season.
Benson and Peyser were both selected by Boston. Peyser was the 11th player selected and was picked in the second round, while Benson was the 21st player selected and was picked in the fourth round.
Benson scored a career-high 41 goals and added 12 assists in 2003. He garnered Second Team All-America honors this season and ended his career among Hopkins' all-time leaders in goals (124) and points (167). He led JHU in goals during each of his four seasons.
Peyser started all 30 games on defense during the last two years for the Blue Jays. Hopkins ranked among the top 10 in the nation this season in scoring defense and man-down defense and Peyser earned Second Team All-America honors for his efforts.
Johns Hopkins posted a 14-2 record this season under the guidance of third-year coach Dave Pietramala. The Blue Jays advanced to the national championship game before falling to Virginia, 9-7.
