BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team defeated Mary Washington, 3-0 in the first game of the JHU Invitational on Friday night at Goldfarb Gymnasium. The Blue Jays finished off the Eagles in three games with scores of 30-28, 30-21, 30-26. Hopkins improves to 11-4 on the season.
JHU was led by junior setter Betsy Baydala (Rockville Centre, NY/South Side) continued her steady play with a team-high 34 assists and 12 digs. Senior outside hitter Stephanie Kaliades (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) led the Blue Jays with 14 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Kate O'Callaghan (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) added ten kills.
In the second match York defeated Swarthmore in three games with scores of 30-21, 30-28, 30-22. Senior outside hitter Kerry Casperson (Littleton, CO/Columbine) recorded a team-high 11 kills and 12 digs for the Spartans. Sophomore setter Caitlin McIntosh (Newark, DE/Newark) delivered 32 assists in the win.
The Invitational continues on Saturday when Johns Hopkins squares off against Swarthmore at 9:00 a.m. York and Washington are also scheduled to play at 9:00 a.m.
