Baltimore, MD - Johns Hopkins sophomore forward Adam Simon (Bethesda, MD/Walter Johnson) recorded two goals and two assists while senior forward Chad Tarabolous (Tulsa, OK/Cascia Hall) added two goals and an assist to lead the No. 13 Blue Jay men's soccer team to a 4-1 win over Bridgewater Saturday afternoon in the Blue Jay Invitational at Homewood Field.
In the day's first match Zach Behrmann headed home a corner kick cross from Jason Smith with 1:45 remaining in the second overtime period to give Savannah College of Art and Design a 1-0 win over Swarthmore.
In the second match Simon scored the only goal of the first half off an assist from Tarabolous 17:51 into the contest. Simon then made it a 2-0 game by scoring off an assist from freshman midfielder Ben McAbee (Hagerstown, MD/North Hagerstown) just 10:47 into the second period.
Matt Brock, who was named the Offensive MVP of the invitational last season, pulled Bridgewater within one when he scored off a feed from In Meang with 27:35 remaining, but Tarabolous quickly answered by scoring off a Simon assist less than four minutes later. Simon again found Tarabolous for a goal with 18:13 left to cap the scoring.
JHU junior goalkeeper Gary Kane, Jr. (Lansdale, PA/LaSalle College) made four saves in 85 minutes, while Eagle goalkeepers Jon Boller and Match Hamersley combined to stop five shots for Bridgewater. Blue Jay sophomore defender Jeff Grosser (Beach Haven, NJ/Shawnee) made a back save in the 38th minute by heading out a shot by Eagle forward John Williamson that was headed for the back of the net.
The invitational continues Sunday, as Bridgewater takes on Swarthmore at 1 p.m. followed by Hopkins versus Savannah College of Art and Design at approximately 3:30 p.m.
