COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. -- One day after playing in the highest scoring game in Centennial Conference Women's Basketball history, Johns Hopkins used a balanced scoring attack and an early 15-2 run to roll past Ursinus, 67-44. The win is the fifth straight for the 19th-ranked Blue Jays, who improve to 12-1 overall and 7-1 in the Centennial. The Bears slip to 3-7, 2-5.
Hopkins, which ran its Centennial Conference regular season winning streak to 15, led 17-8 after a jumper by Ursinus' Julia Tramontana with just under nine minutes to play in the opening half. The Blue Jays then out-scored the Bears, 15-2 over the next 7:45 to push the lead to 32-10 with one minute remaining in the half. Three-pointers by senior Maureen Myers (Waverly, PA/Abington Heights) and freshman Katie Burns (Millerstown, PA/Greenwood) highlighted the run, during which Hopkins forced six Ursinus turnovers.
The Blue Jays carried a 36-13 lead into halftime and the teams battled evenly in the second half with the Blue Jays' lead fluctuating between 19 and 29 points throughout.
Junior Kelly Rumsey (Atlanta, GA/Marist) led the Blue Jays with a team-high 13 points and five rebounds in just 12 minutes of action. All 15 players on the team played at least nine minutes and only Myers played more than 19 minutes for Hopkins, which also got eight points and seven rebounds from freshman Julie Miller (Annandale, VA/Thomas Jefferson) and eight points and two rebounds from sophomore Amanda Leese (Amherst, NH/Bishop Guertin).
Mary Kate Daley's game-high 16 points and 10 rebounds led Ursinus, which dropped its 12th straight to the Blue Jays dating back to 1995. Tramontana added 10 points and Molly Guntli had six points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
