Hopkins Falls To McDaniel, 76-60

Westminster, MD - Toby McIntire and Kristy Costa each scored a game-high 16 points to lead the McDaniel women's basketball team to a 76-60 win over No. 15 Johns Hopkins Thursday night at the Gill Center.

The Green Terror improved to 13-2 overall and 9-0 in the Centennial Conference with the win, remaining in sole possession of first place in the league. Hopkins, which had won 17 straight games against conference opponents since falling at McDaniel last season, dropped to 12-2 overall and 7-1 in league play.

The game remained tight early until the Green Terror used a 7-0 run to take a 30-21 lead with 4:54 remaining in the first half. The Blue Jays cut the margin to three by scoring six straight points, but McDaniel closed the half with an 11-1 spurt to carry a 41-28 lead into the break.

The Green Terror scored the first five points of the second half and still led by 18 at 48-30 with 17:42 remaining. Hopkins attempted to get back into the game as junior forward Ashanna Randall (Media, PA/Penncrest) converted a three-point play and followed with a jumper to cut the McDaniel lead to 13, but Green Terror guard Katy Powell answered with a three-pointer to make it a 51-35 game with 15:34 to play. McDaniel stretched its lead to as many as 21 points, and the Blue Jays could get no closer than 15 the rest of the way.

Kelly Cramp scored 12 points for McDaniel, which won its eighth consecutive game and fourth straight over the Blue Jays in Westminster, while Jacqueline Pundt added eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds. JHU junior guard Alissa Burkholder (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) came off the bench to score a team-best 12 points for the Blue Jays, while Randall added 11 points. Junior forward Kelly Rumsey (Atlanta, GA/Marist) scored nine points to go with a team-high seven rebounds, while senior guard Trista Snyder (West Chester, PA/Unionville) also scored nine points.

The Blue Jays return to action Saturday when they host Dickinson at 2 p.m.
