BALTIMORE, Md. -- Junior forward Katie Kimball (Garden City, NY/Garden City) scored a team-high 10 points and the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team held visiting Dickinson to just 23% shooting, while forcing 28 turnovers as the Blue Jays knocked off the Red Devils, 58-39 Saturday afternoon at Goldfarb Gymnasium. The win improves the Blue Jays' record to 13-2, 8-1 in the Centennial Conference. Dickinson slips to 8-5, 5-3.
Hopkins used a 12-2 run midway through the first half to take command of the game. Junior Alissa Burkholder (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) jump-started the run for the Blue Jays with a three-pointer and she added a short-jumper in the lane two minutes later. Hopkins led 27-12 after a jumper by freshman Julie Miller (Annandale, VA/Thomas Jefferson) with 3:17 remaining in the half, but Dickinson closed the first half with a 6-0 run to pull within 27-18 at intermission. Freshman Piper Etess (Old Lyme, CT/Lyme-Old Lyme) hit a jumper and a layup in the final moments to fuel the run.
An early 10-0 run in the second half, highlighted by a three-pointer from senior Trista Snyder (West Chester, PA/Unionville), gave the Blue Jays a 37-19 lead with just over 12 minutes remaining and the Blue Jays would lead by as many as 23 points during the second half in winning their 16th straight against the Devils.
In addition to Kimball's efforts, the Blue Jays got nine points and two rebounds from Burkholder, eight points and three rebounds from Miller and seven points and six rebounds from Snyder.
