Baltimore, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's fencing team defeated Haverford, 19-8, and New Jersey Tech, 21-6, Sunday afternoon at the White Athletic Center.
Senior Christina Giblin (Toronto, Canada/Phillips Exeter Academy) went 4-0 in the foil, while freshman Joanna Kochaniak (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) won all three of her bouts on the day. Senior Susan Park (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) finished 2-1 on the day, while sophomore Liz Ordun (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) went 3-2.
Sophomore Cathy Gallagher (Lexington Park, MD/Great Mills) led the Blue Jays in the epee with a 2-0 mark, while senior Georgiana Lee (Bakersfield, CA/Stockdale) finished 3-1. Freshman Catherine Chen (Cupertino, CA/Monta Vista) compiled a 2-2 record, while Janani Ramprasad and freshman Allisandra Wen (Houston, TX/The Kinkaid School) each went 0-1 in the epee.
Sophomore Kate Dunne (Beacon, NY/Beacon) paced Hopkins in the sabre by winning all four of her bouts, while sophomore Ann Kim (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) and freshman Sarah Smilow (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) each posted 3-1 records. Freshmen Kimberly Strazdas (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) and Rachel Sussman (Lighthouse Point, FL/Spanish River) both went 1-1, while sophomore Julia Lawrence (Rye, NY/Country Day School) finished 0-2 on the day.
The Blue Jays, who improved to 6-1 on the season, return to action Saturday when they take on Temple, Fairleigh Dickinson, and Stevens Tech in Philadelphia, PA. Action begins at 11 a.m.
