Junior Meg McIntosh (Los Angeles, CA/Brentwood) scored the game-winning goal in the ninth minute to lead the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays over the Bears of Ursinus in Centennial Conference soccer action today at Homewood Field. The win improves the Blue Jays to 7-2-1 and 2-1 in the conference, while the Bears fall to 6-4, and 2-2 in the conference.
McIntosh and the Blue Jays wasted little time as she scored in the ninth minute. Senior Kathleen Turley (New Hyde Park, NY/New Hyde Park) crossed a ball from the corner towards the goal, which McIntosh flicked in with her back to the goal. The goal is McIntosh?s six of the season and 22nd of her career, moving her into sole possession of third place all time at JHU. The assist for Turley is her fourth of the season.
JHU maintained their 1-0 advantage for the remainder of the first half. In the 63rd minute sophomore Kaitlin Giannetti (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) scored to run the Blue Jay lead to 2-0. Junior Katherine Taft (Goshen, KY/Kent-CT) crossed a ball over the box to Giannetti who blasted a shot home from 15 yards out. Freshman Cassandra Vogel (Laurel Hollow, NY/Cold Spring Harbor) added her fourth goal of the season, in the 89th minute when she scored off a rebound right in front of the goal.
Junior Jen Goebel (Jericho, NY/Jericho) made one save in goal for the Blue Jays en route to picking up her fourth shutout of the year. Ursinus goalie Ashley Potter (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg) made seven saves in goal for the Bears.
The Blue Jays will be in action tomorrow when they travel to take on St. Mary?s at 1 pm.
